President Yoon holds a summit with Hungarian President Novak

Seeking ways to expand cooperation beyond the secondary battery sector

By Kim Ji-eun

President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is in New York for the 78th high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly, held a summit with Hungarian President Katalin Novák on Sept. 20.

During the meeting, President Yoon expressed his appreciation for Hungary's support for the Busan 2030 World Expo and encouraged the two countries to work together to make the Expo an opportunity to take bilateral relations to the next level.

President Yoon expressed his pleasure at the recent high-level exchanges between the two countries, including today's meeting with Prime Minister Orbán on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in July.

President Yoon also expressed President Novak's interest in and support for Korean businesses, noting that Hungary is our leading economic partner in Eastern Europe, with more than 300 Korean companies operating in Hungary. They also discussed mutual cooperation on population issues of mutual concern to both countries.

Noting that Korea's investment in Hungary has recently taken the top spot, President Novak said she hopes to strengthen cooperation in new industries such as high-tech based on Korea's development experience. President Novak also expressed her hope that the two countries will share experiences and work together to solve the problems of population decline and low birthrate.

The two leaders used the meeting as an opportunity to further enhance bilateral exchanges and continue to identify cooperative projects that will benefit the two economies.
