President Yoon visits Guinsa Temple, the headquarters of Cheontae Buddhism

To pray for peace for the nation and people

By Lee Jon-young

President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Guinsa Temple, the headquarters of Cheontae Buddhism in Danyang, Chungcheongbuk-do, and prayed for the peace of the country and its people on Oct. 19.

The people of Guinsa Temple welcomed the President with applause during his surprise visit, and the President expressed his gratitude for their welcome.

The President paid a visit to the Great Hall of the Buddha, and then had lunch with venerable Buddhist monks, including Doyong, Deoksu and Seun.

The squash soup, cabbage kimchi, stir-fried watercress, tofu pancake, lotus root fritters, and grapes shared at the lunch offering were harvested by the monks, who are practicing day and night for Zen-farming unity, and the president said that their organic and eco-friendly farming practices are an example for the people.

The President thanked the monks for always praying for the country by practicing the Buddha's teachings as patriotic and popular Buddhism, to which head monk Do-yong responded with prayers for national prosperity and human peace.

Meanwhile, the president's visit comes some 22 months after he visited the site twice during the presidential campaign and promised a return visit at Guinsa Temple event on Dec. 31, 2021, when he was a presidential candidate.
