BPA signs MOU with Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan for port logistics cooperation

Ishikawa Prefecture is a port authority of the Kanazawa Port, which is geographically adjacent to Busan Port

The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced on Aug. 4 that it signed an MOU for logistics-linked cooperation with Ishikawa Prefecture, a port authority at Kanazawa Port in Japan, at the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal in Dong-gu on Aug. 3.

Kanazawa Port, located on the west coast of Honshu, Japan, is geographically adjacent to Busan Port and has eight Busan routes per week, and large shippers such as Komatsu, the world's second-largest heavy equipment company, use the route.

BPA President Kang Joon-seok said, “Through the signing of this MOU, we will strive to facilitate logistics, including joint promotional activities between the two ports in the future, and continue to use Busan Port as an import and export hub port in the Ishikawa area.”

In addition, a joint seminar was held to promote the use of Busan-Kanazawa Port. At the seminar, Hase Hiroshi, governor of Ishikawa Prefecture, personally spoke to explain the current status and benefits of Kanazawa Port, and about 25 participants, including local lawmakers, visited Busan to strengthen cooperation with Busan Port.

BPA President Kang also said, "Japan is the second-largest market in terms of transshipment volume at Busan Port," adding, "We will do our best to further strengthen cooperation with Japanese local ports in the future to attract large quantities."
